Ade & Mart

We like music.

Martin & I met late-autumn 1996 after I answered Martins' ad in Future Music. I didn't expect any interest as the advert was a few months old, but it appealed. He was looking for someone who knew PiL, Autechre, Cocteaus & so on - we met soon after in Wolverhampton & haven't stopped debating the state of music yet. The same night we went back to The Lab & the first of many Stray Dog City (SDC) rehearsals began.

A mutual love of post-punk & towering dronework drew good work from us right from the beginning. We were churning it out. Forty six C90's of the stuff - everything new or existing tunes played differently. Imagine the feeling of churning out a tape-full of material every week. I was in seventh heaven.

However, it eventually became difficult to work together & so SDC finished.

...time goes on...

Then after a while things got worked out & early 1998, we started head-long into Odeama.

With the new addition of a good sampler to play home-made loops, Martin took Bass & vocal duties, whilst I switched to guitar. We played better, Martin sang better & we did more gigs. They were good experiences too. The music was more complex over shorter periods of time, so it didn't have the 'improv-jamming' feel of SDC. But we never played the same thing twice - much of it was thrown down on the spot. What we'd learnt from SDC was still working for us in the new regime.

However, personalities eventually clash & I didn't see in the new millennium as a member of Odeama.

...time goes on...

MemePlex Prime & Rekotron Conspiracy is what we're doing now. We have a load of good tunes already & more jams lined-up before Martin moves to Brighton. Another project we're going to attempt is a series of atmospheric pieces to accompany the reading of Frank Herberts' novel 'Dune'. Provisionally titled 'Dune Reader', this will be a complex & interesting project if we can pull it off.
